My Teliga 21 the forerunner of the sportina 620 ithink fell over in a storm and bent the mast. so im trying to get hold of a new one. Ive found a mast which is heavier and im a bit worried about it being too heavy.
Does anyone know of any old sportina masts anywhere?
Im in the UK in Kent

Well, i’d suggest get the dimensions of the mast, the positions of the spars and riginng connections, and start from there. I have tried to see what mast a Teliga has, but couldn’t find a clear picture. Is the mast in a foot that allows you to lower it? the new mast should fit in that foot size wise.
there are riggers that can recreate a mast based on all measurements, but I think you will find it hard to get a second hand replacement (I looked myself when the top of my mast gave me issues)
Yes it just pivots in a groove between two inch high angled plates and a hinge attached to the bottom of the mast. Im gonna double up all the metal work as itwas allbendy and weak with the last mast.
Im just worried the coachhouse will not take extra weight. But i may have to attach some steel inside the cabin to spread the weight. I may be unnecessarily worrying but i dont want to be topheavy .
as soon as i am able, i’ll take some pics of the foot of my mast.
the wobby part can be that the mast hasn’t been lowered like it is supposed to be (always follow the mast down, make sure it stays straight, and does not break left or right)
An A frame can help lowering the mast.
If your boat is on a mooring that dries when the tide is low, make sure the keel can come up so the boat does not heel over (putting strain on the spars)
there are some video’s and pics in this forum of mast foots
Thankyou. Im so pleased ive found this site. Ive got to take out the keel as well and weld so ive read some very useful posts.
If your boat has a keel construction like the Sportina then the keelhousing (don’t know how it is called) goes from the bottom till the coach roof and supports the coach roof. The weight of the mast is transfered from the mastfoot trough the keelhousing to the bottom of the boat. The coachroof won’t have to much stress due to a heavier mast.
On the picture you see the keel-hous to coachroof attachment. the whole is bolted together and the “wings” of the mast support are right above the keelhousing.
Thats great thankyou. Mine is the same as this picture. Before i fit the mast ive got to get the centre board rewelded as everything rusted off.
